All About Lash Extensions

August 11, 2020

Lash extensions are one of the hottest trends in beauty at the moment. But that doesn’t make them brand new. Fun fact: lash extensions were created in the early 1900’s (the first set in the U.S. was actually applied in 1911 – we know, we were shocked too). Over the years they have been tweaked and perfected to the incredible works of art that you see today. Just like everyone else these days, we are totally obsessed with this service and the amazing results. Here is everything you need to know about Lash Extensions and what they can do for you!

WHAT ARE LASH EXTENSIONS?

WHAT ARE THEY.jpg

Lash extensions are a professional technique of placing a false lash or lashes to the natural lash with adhesive. This gives the appearance of fuller, longer, and darker lashes. Lash extensions are customizable and natural looking because they are applied to fit your desired look. Unlike false lash strips that are glued to the lash line in one long group, lash extensions are applied individually hair by hair to your lashes making them more comfortable and natural looking.

HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?

The answer to this differs for everyone. Lash extensions follow your natural lash shedding cycle which can be impacted by a few things. First, if your lashes naturally shed often you may notice a need for a lash fill more quickly. Second, this shed cycle can be impacted by your lifestyle. If you rub your eyes frequently, sleep in a way that rubs your lashes, or do things like biking that can rough up your lashes and cause them to shed you will also see quicker fill turn around. Generally, clients will need to receive a lash fill every 2 to 4 weeks to maintain their desired lash look.

WHAT IS THE SERVICE LIKE & HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

Once you decide to get lash extensions (YAY, we are so happy for you!) you will schedule your full set appointment. This will be your longest appointment because you are starting from square one. A full set of lash extensions takes about 2.5 to 3 hrs to apply.

HOW LONG - EXAMPLE.jpg

This appointment will begin with a consultation with your service provider where you will chat about your lashes, your desired look, and more. Then it’s lash time! Your service provider will make sure your lashes are cleaned and will apply an under-eye patch. Then they will work through your lash line attaching each lash one at a time. At first this process can feel a bit funky because it is out of the norm, but once you get used to it it can be very relaxing! Some people even take a quick nap.

WHERE IT HAPPENS.jpg

Following your full set, you will come back to the salon in 2 weeks. This will allow your service provider to see what your shed cycle is like. If you are still retaining a lot of lashes, they may schedule your next fill out 3 or 4 weeks from there. It all depends. At your fills your service provider will fill in (that’s where the name comes from) any areas that have lost lashes. From there on out, as long as you stick to the schedule, you will only need to get lash fills, which take an hour to an hour & 45 minutes.

APPOINTMENT TIME.jpg

how much do they cost?

At Pure, lash extension prices are based on time and the amount needed to fulfill your desired look. Pricing starts at $150 for a full set and $65 for a fill and goes up by the amount of time needed. Your service provider will discuss pricing with you during your complimentary consultation so there are no surprises at the end. Additionally, we do require a $50 deposit for all first lash extension appointments. Learn more about this policy through the button below.

WHAT IS THE MAINTENANCE LIKE?

Taking good care of your lashes can make a world of difference when it comes to the longevity of your lashes, and your lash health. It is important to follow recommended lash aftercare to ensure a great lash extension experience. Here are a few of the aftercare requirements you can expect.

-       Lashes need to be washed and brushed daily with a recommended cleanser- we love the Lash Bath from ATOL

LASH BATH.jpg

-       Lash extensions cannot get wet for 2hrs following the lash application

-       Avoid things like chemical peels, lasher treatments, facials (that will rub the lashes), pools, steamy showers, and saunas with lashes applied

-       No rubbing, pulling, or laying on your lashes with them applied

ARE LASH EXTENSIONS BAD FOR LASHES?

No! Not if they are applied correctly and well taken care of! When getting a service like this make sure your service provider is properly educated in the service. Also, make sure you follow the aftercare requirements and do’s + don’ts of lash extensions. All of this information will be given to you by your service provider before the lashes are applied.

NOT BAD.jpg

ARE THERE DIFFERENT STYLES?

Each set of lash extensions is totally different because they are customized to your lashes but there are 2 styles of lashes you can choose from to get started.

First, there is the Classic Lash Extensions. These extensions have one false lash attached to one of your natural lash hairs. This creates a very clean, yet elevated, lash look. This style is great for someone who wants to add some oomf to their lashes but isn’t looking for a dramatic set of lashes.

CLASSIC BEFORE + AFTER.jpg

Second, is Full Volume Lashes. Unlike the classic lashes which only have one lash applied to each individual lash, the full volume set has a lash fan with a few lashes on it applied to each lash. This makes a HUGE impact! Your lashes will look extra full, extra dense, and extra bold. This is our most popular form of lash extensions because of its impact.

ARE LASH EXTENSIONS GOOD FOR EVERYONE?

IMG_9333.jpg

Lash extensions are AMAZING, don’t get us wrong, but they are not for everyone. They require a lot of maintenance, time, and care. Sometimes the requirements of the lashes make them a bad option for those with busy schedules and hectic lifestyles. For those people, a lash lift and tint instead can be a perfect fit. This service requires less maintenance and care. Additionally, everyone’s lashes are different. Some people have thin lashes others have thick, some have long lashes and others have short lashes. The best way to learn if lash extensions are a good fit for your lashes is to set up a complimentary consultation with one of our estheticians to discuss your lashes and options.
